The System
a very different way of looking at our solar system and its relationship with each other
This week’s piece on my substack is more experimental prose wrote recently looking at the relationships between our Planets and how they react to each other like squabbling children unable to leave the veils of their mother’s arms.
****
Mercury
Swift eyes on the sun's horizon, boundaries blur in Mercury's dance on the edge of endless flames, catching up in fleeting rays of radiance with a steadfast gaze,
Its heat and silence echo with darkness, settling upon scorched plains, shadowed in brilliance of proximity, knowing nothing else would dare come near.
Venus
Volcanic rumblings shrouded in clouds, Venus hides her secrets across torrid, rocky realms, glittering in phosphorescent dusk,
draped in semi-darkness, its sulfuric shrouds blacking out the sun like a magical blanket, its fury glittering to anyone outside regardless don’t dare try to come near its atmosphere.
Earth (Terra)
Casting an eye over the rest of the solar system, Earth bustles with an emerging lifeform crawling over every inch of its being, barely away from caves, let alone aware of what lies further afield,
Its harmony of ecosystems barely settled, its world already bursting to a tipping point, sending probes to other worlds, unaware of what it awakens.
Mars
Beneath its deserts, dried-out ancient rivers' legends and tales buried its surface, windswept echoes of lost civilizations, forgotten since ancient times,
cratered scars battered across rusty hue, desolate echoes in silence, leaving a world once beaming with life now a ghost, harmless to all when once it could have fought anybody.
Jupiter
Stretched in gas and swirling storms, its ever-increasing gravity roars like turbulent ballet, a roaring majesty of vastness across all planets with a staggering swagger,
thunderous symphonies inside the world, a banded tapestry of clouds in celestial grandeur, constantly pulling in passing spacefarers as if was constantly building an army.
Saturn
Frozen rings adorn its gas shells, a queen-like shell spinning around and around, ready to swing a massive hammer if they draw too close.
Melding coldness with beauty, its moons and anything silly enough to pass travelling through space to form a veiled wall of silence like it was for some dreadful to come.
Uranus
Further out, icy whispers murmur tales of an icebound enigma, a frightened younger brother fleeing siblings, tilting on its side when it’s running suddenly ceased,
icy plains roll blue in titled uniqueness, like a car driving sideways or an aeroplane mid-flight, hoping to escape what comes next.
Neptune
Even further, Neptune remains a prisoner, trapped in the sun's magnetic pull, frozen embrace till it can move no more.
Brazen in the dark, it longs to return to its original journey, facing shadows instead of a distant mother who won't release it, waging war within.
